NOTES AT CONSTITUTION OF FEDERAL LODGE, FEBRUARY 1915
From Grand Master's Address, Proceedings, Page 1915-13:
December 10, 1792, it was voted in Grand Lodge "That the prayer of the petition of Brothers David Scott, William Toogood and others, for a charter to hold a Lodge in Blanford by the name of Federal Lodge, be granted."
June 9, 1794, a letter was read in Grand Lodge from "William Sizer, Master, and Justus Ashman, Senior Warden, of Federal Lodge in Blandford, praying for liberty to hold the said Lodge alternately at Chester and Blandford; convinced that the same would operate to the good of Masonry in general." The Grand Lodge then voted that the request of Justus Ashman and William Sizer be granted.
In 1796, Samuel Bradford took his seat in Grand Lodge as proxy for Federal Lodge of Blandford.
In 1804, when the Lodges were placed in Districts, Federal Lodge was put in the Seventh with Republican, Harmony, Jerusalem, and Pacific Lodges.
September 14, 1807, Federal Lodge, at Blandford, prayed for a remission of past arrears for reasons assigned in their petition. It was referred to a committee who reported that $66.00 be remitted to Federal Lodge.
The same evening, R. W. Henry Fowle was admitted into Grand Lodge as proxy for Federal Lodge.
Federal Lodge is recorded as represented in Grand Lodge March 14, 1808, June 13, 1808, September 12, 1808, September 11, 1809, December 10, 1810. September 9, 1811, R. W. Thomas Jackson became proxy for Federal and was present September 9, also December 9, 1811, June 8, 1812, March 8, 1813, June 10, 1813, and December 13, 1813.
In 1835, when the Lodges were redistricted, Federal Lodge, of Blandford, was omitted as were 20 other Lodges, the number being reduced from 85 to 64.
NOTES FROM 25TH ANNIVERSARY OF FEDERAL LODGE, APRIL 1938
From Proceedings, Page 1938-412:
"Capt. Wm. Sizer . . . was Master of old Federal Lodge in 1794. I do not know where he resided or was buried. By the old church records at Chester Center he died December 1, 1826, age 80. As indicative of his standing I will mention that in the seating of the church by "dignities," both he and Capt. Toogood were placed in "Dignity Second." . . . Our present Grand Lodge A. F. & A. M. was formed in 1792 by the union of Old Massachusetts Grand Lodge and the Old St. John's Grand Lodge. That year the afore-mentioned David Scott and Capt. Wm. Toogood presented the Grand Lodge a petition for forming a new Lodge, which was granted and the Charter was given to the town of Blandford, under the name of Federal Lodge. Two years later Capt. Wm. Sizer, Master, and Justus Ashmun, Senior Warden, of the Lodge, forwarded a request for permission to hold meetings alternately in Blandford and Chester, which was granted."
