03/08 Agenda

  • V-163: Rt. Wor. Nathan Ordway, District Deputy Grand Master of the 3rd District, reported that he had found the charter of Freedom Lodge, Woburn, in the hands of Luke Fowle of Woburn "who said he would not give it up." He also found the charter of Mount Moriah Lodge, Reading, in the hands of Joel Winship, South Reading, "who is determined not to give it up." The two persons were to be summoned by the Grand Lodge.
    • 06/14: V-169; Wor. H. H. Tuttle, acting on behalf of Grand Lodge, obtained the charter of Freedom Lodge from Bro. Fowle, who expressed regret; he also obtained the By-Laws, Records and Regalia. Bro. Winship treated Wor. Tuttle in "a very abrupt and profane manner" and refused to surrender the requested charter.
    • 06/14: V-173; Bro. Winship expelled.
  • V-165: The committee on the General Grand Lodge determined that the subject should not be re-examined.
  • V-166: Petition by Amicable Lodge, Cambridge, on money lent to Grand Lodge.
    • 09/13: V-183; Committee reported that the Grand Lodge should repay $500.

  • V-174: Petition by King David Lodge, Taunton, for remission of dues.
    • 09/13: V-179; granted.
  • V-174: Invitation from Most Wor. B.B. French, Grand Master of the District of Columbia, to attend the laying of the cornerstone of the Washington Monument on 07/04/1848; Grand Lodge officers requested to attend.
    • 09/13: V-180; correspondence thanking the Grand Lodge for its attendance.
  • V-174: Invitation from Star in the East Lodge, New Bedford, to attend the Feast of St. John the Evangelist; accepted.
  • V-174: Charter of Orphan's Hope Lodge found to be in the possession of Dr. Solomon Gardner of Plymouth; District Deputy Grand Master Rt. Wor. Samuel Chandler directed to investigate.
    • 09/13: V-183, reported that the charter had been surrendered to the District Deputy in 1835.

  • V-180: Report on difficulties in the Masonic Fraternity in Louisiana; referred.
  • V-189: The Grand Master appointed a committee to create a "form of summons" for the subordinate Lodges.
  • V-189: Committee on the communication from St. John's Lodge on an address to the Grand Lodge of France regarding "the late events . . . which have relieved the Fraternity in that country from many vexatious and onerous restrictions."
