BIOGRAPHY

From Missouri Lodge of Research:

Harris Johnston was born in Boonville, Cooper County, Missouri on February 12, 1883, the son of Colonel Thomas A. and Caroline F. Johnston. His father was the second President of Kemper Military School. Harris Johnston was educated in Kemper Military School and Western Reserve University. In 1904 he became Quartermaster of Kemper and served in that capacity for several years.

As a boy he showed a great interest in athletics and sports. While at Kemper, he was a member of the football, basketball and baseball teams. For thirty years he served as Athletic Director and Coach at Kemper.

Harris Johnston was initiated an Entered Apprentice in Cooper Lodge No 36 at Boonville, Missouri, on February 16. 1920, passed March 30, 1920 and raised April 23, 1920. He served as Master of the Lodge in 1927.

He was appointed Grand Pursuivant by Grand Master Gentry in 1931 and advanced to be elected Grand Master in 1941.

Brother Johnston was a Director of the Masonic Home, a member of the York Rite, the Red Cross of Constantine, Kilwinning Council AMD, Ararat Shrine and the Missouri Lodge of Research.

Grand Master Johnston laid down his working tools May 31, 1963 with funeral services held at the Presbyterian Church and burial in Walnut Grove Cemetery with grave side Masonic Services.
