REGULAR SESSIONS

ANNUAL SESSION, 09/11/1827

Meeting held at Boston (Ch1-330):

Grand Chapter opened. Communications were received and read.

  • A report on the petition by Thomas Chapter requesting leave to meet in Fitchburg for six months a year was read, recommending that this request not be accepted.
  • The Committee on regalia reported on recent acquisitions, and it was voted to expend funds for it.
  • The dispensation for Sutton Chapter was extended by six months.
  • Reports by the Grand Treasurer and Grand Secretary.
  • A committee was formed to consider the expediency of changing the 7th Article of the Grand Constitutions.

The meeting elected the officers for the Grand Royal Arch Chapter for the ensuing year, with R. E. Daniel Gibbens re-elected Grand High Priest, and other officers elected and appointed as noted on Pages ChI-336 and ChI-337.

STATED MEETING, 12/11/1827

Held at Mason's Hall, Boston (ChI-340):

Grand Chapter opened.

  • A Committee reported on the request from the Grand Chapter of Maryland to incorporate the degree of Select Master as a part of the Royal Arch work. As Massachusetts had created a Grand Council in 1826, to which this degree belonged, the committee recommended that no action be taken on this request.
  • A Committee appointed to change the 7th Article of the Grand Constitutions reported, and recommended that the Article be changed to read as follows:

"It shall be the duty of the Grand Lecturer, when directed by the Grand High Priest, to visit any Chapter under this jurisdiction, and teach them the lectures, mode of work, and all things appertaining to the interest of the degrees and government of the Chapter. And this Grand Chapter shall make him a reasonable conversation for his services."

  • The committee on Franklin Chapter was discharged, as the Chapter had paid its fees.
  • A communication from the Grand Royal Arch Chapter of Kentucky "respecting a dissolution of the General Grand Chapter of the United States" was received and referred to a committee.

STATED MEETING, 06/10/1828

Held at Mason's Hall, Boston (ChI-344):

Grand Chapter opened.

  • The committee on the dissolution of the General Grand Chapter reported, declaring that it was inconvenient in its meetings, that it was not acknowledged by all Grand Chapters, and that its existence was no longer necessary. The committee recommended that no action be taken regarding this dissolution.
  • The dispensation for Bethlehem Chapter was extended for six months.
  • A memorial was read for DeWitt Clinton, former General Grand High Priest, and the Grand Chapter adjourned and met to perform a memorial service.

SPECIAL MEETINGS

SPECIAL MEETING AT SUTTON, 10/17/1827

Held in Sutton (ChI-337):

The Grand Chapter consecrated Sutton Chapter and installed its officers.
