** The corner stone of the new government building in Amesbury was laid at 2 o'clock, Thursday November 16, with Masonic rites by Most Worshipful [http://masonicgenealogy.com/MediaWiki/index.php?title=GMSanford Baalis Sanford], Grand Master of the Grand Lodge of Massachusetts assisted by Worshipful Silas D. Flanders, Master of [http://masonicgenealogy.com/MediaWiki/index.php?title=Warren Warren] Lodge of Amesbury and Dr. Horace G. Leslie, representing the citizens of Amesbury.
 +
** The exercises were witnessed by a large crowd of onlookers. As a member of the grand lodge was about to deposit the box in the stone, he turned to a member of Warren lodge who was near and directed him to place the box in position. By a coincidence this man proved to be the grandson of the first postmaster of Amesbury, Capt Jonathan Morrill.
 +
** Those who assisted at the ceremony were Dr. Horace G. Leslie, the Rev. [http://masonicgenealogy.com/MediaWiki/index.php?title=MAGLCSkinner Charles A. Skinner], D. D., Right Worshipful [http://masonicgenealogy.com/MediaWiki/index.php?title=MAGLLSouthard Louis C. Southard], Right Worshipful [http://masonicgenealogy.com/MediaWiki/index.php?title=MAGLHFay Henry G. Mead] and Austin B. Raymond, representing the government. The orator of the day was the Rev. [http://masonicgenealogy.com/MediaWiki/index.php?title=MAGLORoberts Oliver A. Roberts] of Melrose, Past Master of Warren lodge. The exercises closed with the singing of ''America'' by 200 school children under the direction of Mrs. Harriet Bartlett.
 +
** The visiting Masons and guests were entertained by Warren Lodge.

    • From New England Craftsman, Vol. I, No. 3, December 1905, Page 99:
    • The corner stone of the new government building in Amesbury was laid at 2 o'clock, Thursday November 16, with Masonic rites by Most Worshipful Baalis Sanford, Grand Master of the Grand Lodge of Massachusetts assisted by Worshipful Silas D. Flanders, Master of Warren Lodge of Amesbury and Dr. Horace G. Leslie, representing the citizens of Amesbury.
    • The exercises were witnessed by a large crowd of onlookers. As a member of the grand lodge was about to deposit the box in the stone, he turned to a member of Warren lodge who was near and directed him to place the box in position. By a coincidence this man proved to be the grandson of the first postmaster of Amesbury, Capt Jonathan Morrill.
    • Those who assisted at the ceremony were Dr. Horace G. Leslie, the Rev. Charles A. Skinner, D. D., Right Worshipful Louis C. Southard, Right Worshipful Henry G. Fay, Right Worshipful Horace E. Marion, Worshipful Frank W. Mead and Austin B. Raymond, representing the government. The orator of the day was the Rev. Oliver A. Roberts of Melrose, Past Master of Warren lodge. The exercises closed with the singing of America by 200 school children under the direction of Mrs. Harriet Bartlett.
    • The visiting Masons and guests were entertained by Warren Lodge.
