Born in Andover, New York, May 18, 1885
Died in Bedford, Massachusetts, April 25, 1973

Rev. Bro. Crandall was born at Andover, New York on May 18, 1885 a linial descendent of Rev. John Crandall who settled in Massachusetts Bay in 1630, and who withdrew with Roger Williams and other religious liberals of the day to take part in founding the Providence Plantations.

Frank Byron Crandall was a graduate of Wellsville High School, Cornell University Class of 1906, and Harvard Theological School Class of 1915. He was a faculty member of Wesleyan College in Ohio for five years, and an instructor of romance languages at the University of Pittsburgh until 1912.

Rev. Bro. Crandall was ordained into .the Unitarian ministry in 1914. He became minister of the First Parish Unitarian Church in Ayer, Mass. which Church he served for 16 years. He later served the First Parish in Athol, Mass. until 1936. He held membership in the following organizations: Phi Gamma Delta Fraternity (National), New England Representative for P.G.D. Fraternity, Phi Beta Kappa Society - Cornell, Cornell Club of New England, Hereditary Society of Colonial Wars, Society of Descendants of Colonial Clergy, Newcomen Society of North America, National Sojourners, Order of the Golden Owl, Athol Rotary Club, Salem Garden Club,

Raised in Wellsville Lodge No. 230, Wellsville, N.Y.; Affiliated with Caleb Butler Lodge February 20, 1920; Served as Worshipful Master 1925; Affiliated St. Paul's Lodge, May 5, 1925; Worship­ful Master in 1928; Grand Chaplain 1932-1953; District Deputy Grand Master Fitchburg 13th Masonic Dist., 1929-30; Charter member Major General Henry Knox Lodge; Grand Representative Grand Lodge of France.

Exalted in Wellsville Royal Arch Chapter No. 143, Wellsville, N.Y.; Affiliated with Bancroft Royal Arch Chapter, Ayer, Mass., Feb. 1922; Served as High Priest 1926; Annointed in Mass. Con­vention of Anointed High Priests March 8, 1927; Grand Scribe of the Grand Royal Arch Chap􀁉er 1931; Served as Grand Chaplain 1942-34.

Calvary Chapter of Rose Croix 1937-9; Affiliated Sutton Lodge of Perfection, Salem, Mass., March 5, 1965; Affiliated Jubilee Council, Princes bf Jeru­salem, May 12, 1965; Was made an Honorary Member of Em­manuel Chapter of Rose Croix, Salem, January 24, 1941; Created a Sovereign Grand Inspector General, 33°, A.A.S.R. of N.M.J., September 24, 1941; Received Veteran's Medal in 1960; Served in World War I and II; Chaplain of American Legion of Mass. Rev. Bro. Crandall is survived by his wife Doris Fletcher Cran­dall of Winter Island Road, Salem, Mass., a son Fletcher V. Cran­dall of Marblehead, a daughter Mrs. Robert (Prudence) Randall of Danvers, and by seven grandchildren and two great-grandchil­dren.

An American Legion service was held on April 27, 1973·, Ma­sonic Service was held on Saturday, April 28, 1973 at 7:30 P.M. Funeral services held at the First Church of Salem (Unitarian) on Sunday, April 29, 1973 at 3:30 P.M. Services were very well attended. Burial was in Harmony Grove Cemetery.
